Printer Certification
Printer Certification
The Printer Certification program is in final development and will be introduced in the weeks ahead. Watch this space for information, tools and support services.
Introduction
The University has initiated a process to certify a select group of printers based upon pricing, capabilities, service and sustainability. In the past, the hundreds of printing jobs created on campus have been bid individually, and over 150 different vendors were used last year alone. By consolidating and certifying a select number of printing companies, fewer printers enjoy the promise of greater volume, so better pricing and service can be secured. Sustainability practices, such as third party chain-of-custody certification, are also part of the considerations for selection.
Many other universities already certify their printers, and savings of as much as 15% have been noted. When the program is in place, a list of the certified printers will be located in the Printer Certification section of this site, along with guidelines for working with the printers and interactive forms to make quoting and bidding easy. (The list of printers recommended for consideration was created by campus communicators with extensive experience working with area printers.) The negotiation process is currently underway and completion is expected by June of ’08.
